1920–21 Stoke F.C. season
The 1920–21 season was Stoke's 28th season of league football and the third in the Second Division.
Overview
For the 1920–21 season there was a lot of movement at boardroom level as former player Samuel Ashworth and several others became club directors. This was to try to help Stoke bring in better quality players to the Victoria Ground. Tom Brittleton made the move and immediately became club captain. However manager Shallcross angered Stoke supporters with the unnecessary sale of Charles Parker to Sunderland who had spent six years at Stoke and became a fan favourite.
A shortage of goals saw Stoke slip dangerously towards towards the lower regions of the Second Division as the 1920-21 season progressed and with only one club being relegated to the newly formed Third Division the margin of five points and a 20th place finish out of 22 was too close for comfort. However it was the signings of Bob McGrory and the Broad brothers Jimmy and Tommy which proved to the main positives of a disappointing season.
